Dear sir,
What is the different between Business Case (BC) and Project Initiation Document (PID)?
I think that BC is a Draft plan and PID is detailed documentation.
Am I right?Looking for your reply.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Leornado

BC is generated by the sponsor of the project. It aim to show that it is a benefical project to undertake, the benefit of the project far out way the cost. However, PID is a document that is produce by the project manager after the BC has been approved.

May 27, 2011 at 5:07 pm #81901Sir please explain the observable, measurable, quantifiable & financial benefits with the help of an example. I’m not able to understand these concepts. Please explain in an easy language without using any jargon. And please tell me that business case is made first or project charter is made first?
May 27, 2011 at 5:09 pm #81902I’ve read from the article but I’m still not able to understand fully.
May 29, 2011 at 7:13 am #81903Observable. You see an effect but it is hard to measure. Eg staff morale might improve after new IT system introduced.
Measurable. You can measure, but only retrospectively and cannot predict changes. Eg sales increasing because of better web site.
Quantifiable . Measurable and predictable. Eg you can predict reduction in staff numbers that automation should bring.
Financial. Turn quantified benefits into money.

June 2, 2011 at 2:21 pm #81908Sir,
Is it true what tsion said:BC is generated by the sponsor of the project. It aim to show that it is a benefical project to undertake, the benefit of the project far out way the cost. However, PID is a document that is produce by the project manager after the BC has been approved…June 2, 2011 at 5:22 pm #81909BC should come before PID otherwise PID might be useless.
PID cold be produced by the project manager, or a joint production of project manager and project sponsor.
