Dear tutor,
I noticed that APM is a paper that involves a lot of theory. I have no problem in memorising the models such as PESTEL, Mendelow’s matrix, Porter’s five forces and so on.
I am currently using a BPP kit and it is filled with lots and lots of theories in it. My question is do I really need to memorize all the definitions, keywords, etc (which will be quite impossible)?
Take Business Process Re-engineering for example, there is so much to memorize. There are Hammer’s principles of BPR, Implementation of BPR, Problems with BPR, Implications of BPR for accounting systems and so on, you get my point. Must I really memorize all these to prepare for APM?
During exam, will marks be awarded if the definitions and keywords are written purely based on my own understanding? The wordings will be totally different from the textbook version though. I am afraid that I will only be awarded minimal marks if I do so.
Sorry for asking all these, I was enjoying APM when watching OT lecture videos and reading OT notes. The nightmare begun when I started to read the textbook, I felt like there is so much more that I havent study and this is really stressing me out.
Solution: do not read the textbook!
Read the OT notes and listen to the lectures. These contain the most important areas.
Practice questions, particularly look at the last 6 – 10 published papers. Note any gaps between what you covered in OT and what the question requires you to know. Note that ACCA model answers are much fuller than ypu could ever produce. Dip into the textbook if more explanation is needed.
This is primarily an exam of application, not the reproduction of knowledge.
