Hi
Before IAS 27 was revised non controlling interest could not be negative. However according to revised IAS 27,non controlling interest can be negative and that this is consistent with the idea that nci are part of the equity group. Now my question is how do you treat negative nci in statement of financial position? What is the accounting treatment?
Thanks
I have to admit, that’s got me stumped too! For example, when impairing goodwill on a proportionate basis, are we meant to throw the nci into debit? I can’t believe that that is correct and am hoping that Graham Holt will write something in the near future to clear this point up.
