    Hi

Sorry to jump your thread – but can i ask anyone about Kaplan V BPP for this subject?

I normally prefer Kaplan text books, but would like a specifc opinion on P3 past students re BPP/KAPLAN as its so much theory.

Also does anyone know offhand if the syllabus changed very much from 2009?

    Many thanks

Hi as far as i know the syllabus hasn’t changed since 2009. As for the books to use.. this paper tests your concepts so you can use any. I personaly prefer bpp to study p3 from coz it gives you ample theory to look up and research on and just read even to come up with more elaborate answers!
    I hope this helped u .

    Hi xoticS

I got the BPP books second hand in the end – yep , there is plenty of theory there to keep me going.
From what i now understand, it is really how much you apply the theory to the case study than how much theory you write down on the exam paper.

    Thanks again

If you read the OT notes, listen to the lectures, read the relevant articles in SA Magazine (for the last year) and attempt lots of questions, you should be well-prepared.

As has been said here, beware of learning too many theories. This exam is more interested in you applying relevant theories.

do kit also and write answers at your own… means writing practice is also necessary…

The BPP text is comprehensive and knowledge of that would certainly cover P3 factual content. However, although shorter, the OT notes cover the material also, and might actually help you to concentrate on the important areas. Looking at all past papers would equip you well for the questions to expect.

However, a gap can remain between knowing the theory and applying the theory to the scenarios in questions. So, to help, look also at the worked question ‘Bonar Paint’ on the OT site, and also look at the recent article in Student Accountant magazine on how to approach the P3 case study.

At this stage, I would recommend downloading the real past questions and not those adapted by the kitsb those kits tend to spoil you and at times, consist of too much detail that you probably may not be able to write in the exam.

Practise the live questions, read the examiner’s comment and marking scheme, that way you understand his style of setting questions. Don’t ignore the 3.5 papers too as some of these form the basis of future questions. Remember, the pilot paper was adapted from paper 3.5 2004. Luckily, Steve Skidmore hs been setting the exam for years!
