Hi everyone,
Hope you’re doing fine.
I am really really new with this ACCA so there are many question I would like to get more information.
I am a bachelor degree in computer science majoring computerized accounting. Basicly, it is half accounting and half computer science. When I checked the exemption database in ACCA’s website, I cannot find my university in there.
Am I eligible to get the exemptions? Do I need to register first before they can confirm about my exemptions?Regarding to work experience, I never worked with accounting company but I have more than 3 years experience working with consultant company who develop software for finance module. My role is as a business analyst and design the system based on accounting knowledge and user requirements.Am I eligible to claim those experiences in order to fulfill a 3 years working experiences requirement for being a ACCA’s member?
What is MSER? Is it applicable for me?

Exemptions
Contact them but GET SOMETHING IN WRITING! I’ve had friends be told they are exempt, then aren’t, then are. Messed them right up with courses, time off work, money and all sorts. Hopefully the ACCA are less prone to internal confusion, but you never know.Work experience:
It sounds like your work can be used, but maybe need to be Pro-rata’d. Though to be fair I’d say it just counts,

Mature Student Entry Route.
“The Mature Student Entry Route (MSER) embodies ACCA’s open access principles. Normal minimum requirements to join the Professional Scheme are to be aged over 18 and to have achieved a specified level of academic qualifications. However, irrespective of your previous academic qualifications or social background, the MSER enables those people aged over 21 to join the Professional Scheme student register, provided they pass two exams (equivalent to Papers 1.1 and 1.2) in two years.”
It looks like if you’re over 21 you can take 2 exams rather than 3? I’m not sure. I guess it helps speed things up, but the changes are, if you’ve done some accountacy in your degree you (should be) exempt a number of exams anyway.I’d contact them about them looking into your course (provide choices and modules you took) and either ask about the experience or enter it as normal. If nothing else you’ll be doing financial things in your job whilse you study so I’d not worry about it!
Hmm…..let me clarify a few things. With a degree, you dont have to apply via MSER, you can apply through normal entry. This means you can take up to 4 exams per sitting. As for exemptions, ACCA has great difficulty deciding on degrees they have not previously assessed. The only way to find out if you will get exemption is to first apply, then submit your degree and courses and ACCA will decide.
