Has the process for making law ie the 5 stage process and royal assent changed with the change in the court structure?
June 7, 2010 at 6:43 pm #63628i dnt think so. the article says tht 4 law students only the name changes all else remains same.
June 7, 2010 at 8:10 pm #63629So you reckon an act still goes through House of Lords and House of Commons or it now goes through House of Lords and the Supreme Court?
June 7, 2010 at 8:47 pm #63630I think that’s correct.
A bill is passed through the two Houses and becomes an Act.You know the House of Lords and the Supreme court are the same thing right? House of Lords is the old name.
June 9, 2010 at 10:19 am #63631The process is the same. However, the HoL is NOT the same as the Supreme Court. The law lords who were the HoL in its judicial capacity were also instrumental in the process of passing the bill into an act.
That has now been removed.
the process is the same as it was – but the 12 Law Lords who WERE in the HoL in its LEGISLATIVE capacity are now no longer involved – they have left the HoL in its legislative capacity and function now as the Supreme Court ( formerly also called HoL ) ie in a judicial capacity
