Sir,
I am planning to start studying for F6 UK over the next 6 months and present it at June 2018 session. I see that all study materials available now are valid until March 2018, and none is available for June 2018 session yet.
I saw on ACCA website the following:Finance Act 2016 will be examinable in the June 2017, September 2017, December 2017 and March 2018 exam sessions.
FTX (UK), F6 (UK) AND P6 (UK) – EXAMINABLE LEGISLATION
In line with the normal cut-off for examinable legislation, the latest Finance Act which will be examined in FTX (UK), F6 (UK) and P6 (UK) in examinations falling within the year 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018 is the Finance Act 2016.Given the unexpected General Election in June 2017, in order to provide certainty to learning providers and students, the latest Finance Act which will be examined in FTX (UK), F6 (UK) and P6 (UK) in examinations falling within the year 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019 is the Finance Act 2017 which received Royal Assent on 27 April 2017. Finance (No. 2) Act 2017 and any further Finance Acts 2017 will not be examinable in examinations falling within this exam year, regardless of when they receive Royal Assent.
After the General Election in 2015, Finance (No. 2) Act 2015 did not receive Royal Assent until 18 November 2015. Given the delay and the time between the election and the Finance Act receiving Royal Assent, ACCA have taken the decision now on what will be examined, to provide certainty regardless of the outcome of the General Election.
With regard to prospective legislation where, for example, provisions included in the Finance Acts will only take effect at some date in the future, such legislation will not normally be examined until such time as it actually takes effect. The same rule applies to the effective date of the provisions of an Act introduced by statutory instrument.
Are the differences with Finance Act 2016 so significant that I should not start studying on the materials available on Open Tuition yet and not buy any materials yet?
Many thanks for your advice,
AnneDecember 17, 2017 at 3:56 am #423781If you are going to sit the June 2018 exam then it will be the Finance Act (FA) 2017 material that you will require not the current FA 2016 material and you will need to check with the ACCA approved material providers to see when their new material will be available if not already so.
The FA 2017 OT Course Notes will be available by latest the end of January 2018 with the lectures starting to appear from that date as well.
There are no huge changes in the tax systems that have taken place in FA 2017 but because of changes in rates and allowances there is a significant amount or re-writing to be done before the new notes and then the lectures can be produced.
If you are planning to sit 2 papers in June 2018 then clearly starting your studies on your other chosen paper first would seem to be the best advice subject to the material availability from the approved providers of course.
I will of course endeavour to get the new OT course notes produced at the earliest available time in January.January 8, 2018 at 12:06 am #427627Hello,
I intend to sit for the F6 examination in March 2018, however I purchased the FA2017 material. Do you think this is okay or would you recommend to wait June 2018?
Thank you.
January 10, 2018 at 10:22 am #428192Although there are not huge changes in FA 2017 there are enough for it to be a bad idea to use it to prepare for the March exam.
You have 2 options therefore – prepare for the June exam (hopefully you will pass first time but if you need to resit it will be the same material to use) using the FA 2017 material, OR use the OT course notes and lectures for FA 2016 and purchase the equivalent FA 2016 exam kit and sit the March exam.January 10, 2018 at 12:43 pm #428200Hi Adelaide, could you let me know from which provider you got FA2017 materials?
Dear Tax tutor, would you have any views on when you will start to publish the new materials in OT?
Many thanks

March 11, 2018 at 4:12 pm #442214we agree that opentuition.com is a worth useful site, but if it would delay to upload finance act 2017 notes and lectures for f6 and p6, isn’t it would cause to lose trust of many poeple on this site? so my question is for admin>> why delaying in updating the syllabus if you want students to pass this june attemtp?

March 14, 2018 at 8:40 pm #442646Thank you nadiranks it does indeed take a lot of time to produce and update the notes and then produce the lectures, all of which has to be done in what little spare time I have when I am not actually teaching on other courses.
I thank you for your patience and I can only promise that I will record the lectures whenever I have the opportunity to do so. - AuthorPosts
