7.16 Mr Q is manager of a division which is undergoing a business downturn. He tries to shelter the
workforce from the effects of downsizing: taking time for consultation, organising counselling and
    refusing to institute compulsory redundancies.
Which one of the following cultural types identified in the Hofstede model is this manager most likely to
    represent?
    A Low power-distance
    B Low masculinity
    C Low uncertainty avoidance
    D High individuality

    the correct answer is B,

what proof do we have that the answer is B? what do they mean by low uncertainty avoidance( does it mean they do not fear uncertainty and avoidance)

It’s a completely rubbish question. My analysis is:

D is obviously wrong: not focused on ‘I’. More collectivist focussing on ‘We’

C there is probably more uncertainty avoidance for Q if he were to do what HO tells him to. He isn’t, so presumably that means he can deal with low uncertainty avoidance.

So, in my opinion C could be right.

B well Q is obviously a caring, nurturing individual so this answer could be OK

A Subordinates expect involvement – as Q has here.

    A, B and C could be right!

Any ACCA question would be better tested and thought out.
