I just attempted a question on consolidated goodwill the total marks for it were 6.Later i saw the marking scheme and it just mentioned 6 marks for goodwill(no marks for individual steps mentioned).Well what if correctly attempted most steps required in calculating goodwill and just one wrong calculating gave me the wrong goodwill figure in the end. That means i lost all 6 marks ?
Also i have the same question about calculating costs of goods sold(4 marks for that)November 11, 2017 at 7:30 am #415203Look at a goodwill working (and a working for cost of sales)
Within that goodwill working there are probably 6 separate figures involved … and EACH of those figures is worth a mark
ACCA marking is NOT a matter of all or nothing
ACCA marking is very fair – make one mistake and you lose one mark
Make two mistakes? Lose two marks
In a goodwill calculation, if you make 2 mistakes, you’ll still score 4 out of the six available
And, get this! If you make an addition error when computing the actual figure for goodwill … you hit a wrong figure on your calculator and (say) pressed 2,500 instead of 2,400, but all the figures are written correctly in your working W2 … you will likely lose NO marks
The ACCA is NOT examining your ability to operate a calculator!
OK?
