    Hi Mike!

Could you explain how natural event could break or could not break the chain of causation?

There was a case that I used to teach, the name of which now escapes me, where a man was sued by the local authority for failing to keep his artificial lake under control.

One evening the lake burst it’s banks, raced down the hill and swept away 4 county bridges

There was no doubt that this water was from the man’s lake and that the lake had burst its banks and the man had failed to control the lake

However, the man in his defense was able to show that, on the evening in question, there was the heaviest rainfall on record for that part of the country

He was found not liable – the lake had escaped through the actions of a Higher Power

    Will that do for you?
