    Dear Sir,

I came across this question on the Becker revision kit :

You have just timed a person doing a haircut for the first time. It took 50mins. What is the learning rate if the person took 35 minutes on the second haircut? 15% / 30% / 70% / 85%

I approached this in 2 ways but cannot identify the correct answer.

    Method 1 :

    50mins + 35mins = 85mins total / 2 = average 42.5mins
    42.5 / 50 = 0.85 x 100 = 85%

    Or

    Method 2 :

    35mins / 50mins = 0.7 x 100 = 70%

What should be the correct answer in this case? The answer on the kit is 85%.

    Thanks

The answer in the kit is correct!!!

There is only one correct way to approach it (what you have called method 1).

I suggest that you watch my free lectures on learning curves because I work through a similar example and explain why we do it this way.

The lectures are a complete free course for Paper F5 and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
