Dear Tutor,
I have a questions with Q4’s answer:
1) What does it mean by
“the use of league tables only measures relative performance. The best force in the table could still be producing an unacceptable performance in absolute terms”
I do not understand this sentence, what does ‘relative performance’ and ‘absolute term’ mean? Furthermore, I have seen terms like ‘absolute amount’, ‘absolute figure’ in other past papers, what does it mean by ‘absolute’?
Thank you in advance.
Think of a class of 6 children. Their exam results will a?ow you to rank them : 1st, 2nd…6th. This is their relative perfperformamce ie how they perform relative to others.
However, they could still all fail the exam. Eg pass mark 50%, but they score 30, 28, 25, 20, 18, 10. Their absolute performamce, (for all of them here) is unsatisfactory.
