What is a prerogative order and what are the types of prerogative order?
Prerogative orders are the domain of the High Court and are issued by that Court acting in its supervisory capacity over Courts of inferior status
They are also issued by the HIgh Court in the capacity of supervisor of tribunals and public authorities
Basically it’s a question of the High Court making sure that these inferior offices do not exceed the powers that are delegated to them so prerogative orders may include such orders as orders of mandamus (“we command”), prohibition orders and “quashing orders” (where the High Court cancels a decision made by an inferior Court on appeal / judicial review)
