Hi John, I just wondered if you can shed some light on an issue for me.
I’ve practised many questions on variance analysis but there is one question in the BPP revision kit regarding a section C question that leaves my mind confused. I won’t bore you with an explanation but to cut a long story short, using the method I learned with you (not just the rules) I seem to get a different answer than them. They do stress in the examiner feedback that people do have different approaches to variances but as long as they are applied consistently you will be given full credit. So I just wondered what they mean by that? Is it we have to match their answer but how you get there doesn’t matter or is it you can reach a different answer but as long as you applied a consistent approach and use logical reasoning you’ll be ok?

HarryIt is difficult to help without knowing which question.
However, it is only planning and operational variances where there are two different approaches which give different answers. For all the other variances, there is only one correct answer (even if you do your workings differently).
I think the question you might be referring to is one called SecureNet. This was a planning and operational question set by the previous examiner who took one approach, the current examiner takes a different approach.
