Could i ask anyone thats completed some/all the P papers, how long did you allow for each P paper? I still have F8 and F9 to go so it wont be starting them till later on in the year (possibly next year!), but im concerned with the P papers. Sounds like they are absolute monsters!

My situation at the moment is working as an accountant full time and going to college for 4 hours a week friday evenings. Along with a pregnant wife due late summer, im wondering how long i need to realistically allow for each P paper (doing 1 at a time as well, i dont think i could cope with 2!)

Also, if anyone has struggled with certain optional one, or found one ‘easier’ (i use that term loosely) then i would be happy to hear. I really dont know which ones im going to choose at the moment.

Many thanks for any help or responses,

    James

    Hi James,

I was a full time student and as exams are now held quarterly I use to take 2 P exams at a time. Also, I self studied for all papers (of course with opentuition help). Considering you have lot of things going on I would suggest 1 paper each session (i.e 3 months), I believe thats doable.

Further, don’t think of P papers as monsters its just about using a slightly different exam technique than the F papers. To decide which P exams to choose, firstly consider which subjects you found easier or scored higher than others at the F level. If you still can’t decide then just choose as per the sequence.

    Hope it helps.

I’d suggest doing the mandatory P papers first, there’s no real benefit of doing the options first.

This also avoid any issues with the syllabus changes next year (replacing P2).

I’d suggest doing 3 per year. (March June and December, giving you the summer to enjoy it with your wife planning for the birth.

I started my F papers when my wife was pregnant and did one exam every 6 months until I qualified in January. If 4 sittings per year had been available then this would be the approach I’d have taken.
