Many organisations are described as Bureaucratic. When the team was first coined bureaucracy was regarded as being highly efficient and there are still cases where a bureaucratic approach is appropriate. However bureaucracy has some undesirable features. Can you identify 3 from the lost below?

    A) it relies on expertise of its members not through standardised skills but by importance of the mix of skills
    B) Committees and reports slow down decision making process
    C) Innovation is diffficult
    D) Over prescriptive rules produce a simplistic approach to problems

    1) a,b,c
    2) a,c,d
    3) b,c,d
    4) a,b,d

Sir correct answer is (3) … I didn’t understand. Can you please explain me

You have to look for the best 3 disadvantages, or alternatively identify which on is not an obvious disadvantage.

D – well we know that bureaucracies mean that people follow rules even if not appropriate.
C – it can be very difficult to change rules and reporting lines in bureaucracies
B – we know that bureaucracies can be very slow as decisions filter through all the layers
A – not a disadvantage of bureaucracies as people with different skills perform different functions.

So, it looks like B, C, D are disadvantages.
