Hi,
I have passed F1-F4, and today I sat the F5 CBE . It went well and I am confident I passed. My attention now turns to which exam to do next.
I am planning to do one exam every quarter as I have done the first 5 at roughly this pace and so far it’s working for me. I work in a financial accounting role so F7 would be the most applicable to my job but I’ve heard it’s the hardest and I’ve been recommended that you leave F7 til last of the F papers then take P2 immediately afterwards.
It will also be year end reporting time come January so I will be working longer hours and have less time to dedicate to study, therefore it makes sense to take an ‘easier’ paper in the March sitting than a hard one.
We have separate tax and audit teams so these aren’t particularly relevant to my current role at work. I work in financial services so F9 looks like it could be quite relevant, and I also find some of the topics like investments and financial markets quite interesting.
The order I was going to do them was going to be: F9, F6, F8, F7, P2, followed by the case study and options. For my options I have free choice from my employer, and I think I would like to do P4 (Advanced Financial Management) and P6 (Advanced Tax).
However, I was speaking to the tutor at my revision course and she suggested if I was going to do P6, that I should do it immediately after F6 so the knowledge is still fresh, as you can now sit papers in any order so you can take a P paper before completing all the F papers. This was not something I had considered previously so has left me unsure of what to do next! And if that applies to P6, surely it applies to P4 too?
I’ve searched online and found some conflicting information, so just wanted to find out:
a) Is it possible to do any P paper before completing all F papers, WITHOUT paying the fees for the remaining F papers?
b) Any thoughts or recommendations on what I should do? Should I stick to the original plan, or change it so I am doing each advanced P paper straight after the equivalent F paper?

It is not possible to sit the P papers before having completed all the F papers, unless you pay for the missing ones, which is, wisely, something that you don’t want to do.
P papers can now be done in any order.
Sitting P6, P4 and P2 immediately after F6, F9 and F7 might be helpful: you would have the most challenging papers out of the way and the knowledge from the F papers is still extremely important at P level (especially for P6, where a good 75% is F6 stuff).
On the other hand, sitting the P papers in order is also beneficial as it will help you build stamina and get used to the different style and increasing level of intellectual skills required at this level.Just my humble opinion on the matter, though.
