Hi Sir,
I have been looking through past years papers and found out that answers to the questions related to ethical risk and responses, audit risk and responses, Test of control and its objectives, Deficiencies & Recommendation and Test of Controls and etc were presented in the form of table. It seems pretty clear for us as we could make revision more efficient. However, can we presented our answers in the answer booklet in table forms too?
Moreover, I found out that some of the question require us to list down answer, for e.g., the substantive test, precondition of an audit, procedure of valuation and etc.. So can we present our answer in the same way as them, in the form of listing? But it seems like in a point-form answers, will we get marks from using such method?
Your prompt reply is highly appreciated.
Thank You.
November 19, 2016 at 9:09 am #349955Tables (or as I call them ‘columns’) are a very good way to present your answers. They make you answer much easier to mark and are therefore popular with markers. You are also less likely to leave out the second requirement (eg give a deficiency without the matching recommendation).
As for describing something like the preconditions for an audit, please do write each element on a separate paragraph. That way you are challenging the marker as to why a mark should not be given for what you said. Your paragraphs can be plain paragraphs, numbered or can begin with a bullet point. The examiner’s objection to bullet points is not the ‘bullet’ ? the objection is that it is often only followed by one or two words and this is no enough to properly explain what you mean. So:
“? Provide information” would not get many marks but:
“? Directors must accept that they are required to provide the auditor with all the information and documents requested” would score well.November 19, 2016 at 3:34 pm #350007Thanks for prompt reply.
I am glad to know that the so-called “column” method can be used to present my answer.
As F8 is a writing paper, my previous lecturer advises me to write all my answers in paragraph form, and i ended up failing the paper. But in fact, I am very confident with my answers and few more marks to go to get a pass.I was surprised when I read through examiner’s report stating that “we are very pleased to see candidates present their answers in table form”
For the incoming F8 paper retake, I will present my answers as per what you advised.
Thanks Sir.
