can you help me with this ex2.5,page 252 bpp text

    material $5000
    labour (800hrs *$5 per hr) $4000
overhead (150% of labour cost) 6000 .learning curve :80%

what would be the cost pu for a third and fourth yacht if they ordered separately later on ?
how to calculate labour hour ?

is this working correct for 3rd yacht?

Total time for (1+3)4 yachts :2048
    4 * 512

less :time for first ie ;1*800 (800)

    time for next 3 1248

    avg time

    1 800
    2 640
    4 512

bpp text has worked out differently

You have calculated the time for the next 3, but the question as you have typed it is asking for the time for the 3rd.

I do suggest that you watch my free lectures on learning curves (the lectures are a complete free course for Paper F5 and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well).

The time for the third is the total time for 3 less the total time for 2.

The total time for 3 is 3 times the average time when they make 3. To get the average time per unit when making 3 you need to use the formula.

we less total time for 2 from 3 since it that difference would be extra time required for making three yachts ?is it !!

    are my workings correct?

    tot time for 3 yachts 3* 92.99 278.99

    less time for 2

    2 *640 (1280)

    ( 1001.01)

    average time for 3 working
    y=axb

    800 * 3 log(.8/log 2

    800*.1162
    92.99

    average time for two

    1 800
    2 640

Your workings look to be correct (but is there no answer in the BPP Study Text? I do not have the Study Text, only the Revision Kit).

(If you watch my free lectures then you don’t really need the Study Text – the lectures are a complete free course for Paper F5 and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam. Much more important is the Revision Kit, because it contains lots of exam standard questions for practice, and question practice is vital to passing the exam.)
