Mike promised to take John to lunch, and then when we got there Mike said “you must pay, because I have given you the benefit of my company”.

However, John says that – Past consideration is no consideration.

Sir is this not executed as Mike promised to pay(Promise) , and John comes ( act) and therefore promise for an act.

Sorry for the name examples 🙂

Has lunch already been eaten at the time when Mike said ‘you must pay because I have given you the benefit of my company’ or was this said before they sat at the table?

‘Mike promised to take John to lunch,’ – at the time of that promise did I say to JOhn ‘and I shall pay’ or did I simply promise to take him for lunch?

If I had promised to take him to the car ferry, does that mean that I have to get on the ferry as well?

I have already fulfilled my obligation by taking him to the restaurant at lunch time

If he chooses to eat, that’s his problem

If I choose to eat and I have no money, that’s my problem. But I can still run faster than he can

You may now appreciate the difficulty in writing examination questions that are totally complete and non-ambiguous!
