At the start, please let me say that I have the utmost respect and grateful appreciation for your professionalism throughout many of the ACCA papers.
Following your lectures, I am working through some of the past papers and have ‘issues’ concerning the published answer to this question given the fact that (I understand – and am happy to be corrected) you use the BPP course material.
Assuming that ‘points’ are given for ‘quoting’ cases within the answer, why does Omnium Enterprises v Sutherland (1919), Vitol SA v Norelf Ltd (1996) and Ryan v Mutual Tontine Westminster Chambers Association (1893) appear not be included in the June 2014 BPP text book (which examiners claim to read)?
Is this one reason why pass rates and appallingly low, the fact that information required in the exam answer book is not provided in the text books?
Whilst writing, the examiner might wish to know that Hadley v Baxendale [1854] EWHC J70 (https://casebrief.me/casebriefs/hadley-v-baxendale/) and not 1845 as stated in the answer document. Whilst, as you have said, dates are not needed, but I would expect the examiner to put the correct date in his answer.

Neither dates nor case names are of any relevance nowadays in F4 examinations
You are incorrect – I do NOT use BPP material to lecture from – the courses notes are written by me for my use on courses
The cases you have mentioned are just three of many cases that could have been mentioned and none of those you quote (other than Hadley v Baxendale) are mentioned as illustrative in my notes
The examiner is not a proof reader and given that the examiner and I and no doubt BPP and others repeatedly tell you, dates are not important, the fact that Hadley’s date has two transposed figures is …. not important
Since the change of F4 exam format there’s is now NOTHING to be gained from quoting cases. If you think about it, the really is no opportunity for you to quote cases
Personally I think it’s a pity 🙁
But I have to accept change in the name of progress
And I have no idea why pass rates are so low – I would have thought that endless practice of answering mcqs would effectively guarantee a pass
