Hi Mike
Could you pls provide a brief how we can apply IFRS15 for contract work , ie how we can recognise the revenue and its impact on ISA18.
Do we need to apply IFRS 15 in June 16 exam or can we still use ISA 11, 18
Thanks in advance
BennMay 4, 2016 at 2:14 pm #313686Ok, first things first – I assume that ISA 11 is nothing to do with Isaiah chapter 11 “Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his …”
nor is ISA 18 related to ISA 18 2 – Setting a new Standard in Alarm Management
So I believe that we’re dealing with IAS 11 and IAS 18. However, this is wasting your time and mine because neither of these documents now exists so there is NO WAY that an exam question will expect an answer under the provisions of IAS 11 nor IAS 18 (and certainly “shooting from Jesse’s stump” will not feature in F7 – at least, not in June 2016)
Both have been replaced by IFRS 15
The chapter “Construction Contracts” in the course notes, whilst originally written for IAS 11, is still relevant for the calculation of revenues, costs and profits under IFRS 15 where profits under a long-term contract need a basis for computation.
IFRS 15 is, however, more likely to appear as a question requiring identification of the 5-step process (as described in the course notes within the separate chapter Revenue)
Hope that that helps (and that Jesse recovers soon)
