I really need help, I have failed P7 for 6 times, how should I start to do my revision? I have practice few times for those past year questions. I always faced with poor time management during the real exam.
April 24, 2016 at 6:20 pm #312533Are you one of those unfortunate people that are unable to tell the time? When you look at a clock and you see three black lines emanating from the centre, do you often wonder what is the significance of those black lines. And why does one move relatively fast and is called the “second finger”
Another moves 60 times slower and that one is called the “minute finger”
And then there’s the last one, the little short one (called the “hour finger”), and that moves 120 times slower than the minute finger
The combination of these three all moving at different speeds allows us to tell the time
But you seem unable to tell the time. You ask how to pass P7
I can’t believe that it’s a lack of knowledge, not after 6 attempts. So it must be exam technique.
Read my articles on exam technique both for P7 in particular and for “general”
In addition there are two good articles by two members of the P3 (P4?) marking team from around 3 years ago, and they’re good value
And then practice.
A 10 mark part question deserves 19.5 minutes
10 / 2 = 5 minutes planning time to think of ten separate, markable, relevant points. That leaves you with just 14.5 minutes to write out your answer in proper style
That’s just 1.45 minutes per point. How much can you write in 1 minutes 27 seconds? Try it, now. No, I mean NOW, before you read any further. get a book, any book, open it at random, and copy. Get someone to time you 1 minute and 27 seconds
You didn’t did you – you’ve just carried on reading
If you had tried writing for 1 minute 27 seconds, it’s unlikely that you would have got beyond the third line and that’s the absolute MAXIMUM that you should be writing per paragraph. That is, one sentence for 1 minute 27 seconds is a separate paragraph.
Leave a line
Next paragraph – 1 minute 27 seconds
Leave a line
Next paragraph – 1 minute 27 seconds
10 times
How can you fail 6 times!!!
You’re like David Beckham when he was watching a Manchester United recorded game and MU was awarded a penalty. Beckham set the ball up on the penalty spot and then paused the recording. He turned to his friends and said “I bet I score” KNowing that it was a recording, and knowing that he had missed the penalty, Gary Neville said “I bet you $50 that you miss”
Beckham re-started the recording and, of course, missed
“I don’t believe it” he cried “How could I miss it twice?”
This is you, isn’t it!
Take an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
Retake an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
Retake an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
Retake an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
Retake an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
Retake an exam, mess up time allocation, fail
How many more times?
Read those exam technique articles
And practice telling the time!
