I have just received my results for F5 and I got a 49. I feel terrible because I know I have to use more money and time to redo a paper just because of one mark.
I do not get the logic for failing a person with 49 marks. Does this mean that the person with 50 marks has more knowledge than the one with 49 marks? Failing someone because they did not reach the pass-mark by one mark seems outright cruel.
Anybody else agrees with my position?
But how would you suggest they could realistically change it. There has to be a cut-off between passing and failing – it they made the pass mark 40 or 60 then there would still be people failing on 39 or 59.
Because you got 49 you paper will have been remarked three times – the last time by the examiner himself – just to make sure that it had been marked fairly. If the examiner thought you deserved to pass then the mark would have been changed to 50.
There was a time when they did not tell you your marks – if you failed you did not know whether you failed on 49 or failed on 30.
I can fully understand that it is very depressing to have failed, and even more so when it is just by 1 mark. However at least you know that with just a bit more work you are going to pass next time. If you had failed on 19 then obviously even next time would be very scary.
