it was my 3rd attempt i failed. what should i do im depressed and disappointed i scored 30
April 18, 2016 at 8:24 am #310976I am sorry to hear that you failed.
Have you watched our free lectures – if not then I suggest that you do. (They are a complete course for Paper F5).
Other than that, the most important thing of all is practice at exam standard questions. Have you got a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers? If not you really should get one and work through every question in it.
Also, what may be useful is to watch my free lectures working through the whole of several recent past exams. In these I discuss the approach to the exam as well as working through the technical content. You can find them linked from the main Paper F5 page.
April 18, 2016 at 12:32 pm #311201My previous material of study for F5 was LSBF Video Lectures, LSBF handouts and past papers of 3 attempts. I gave F5 with F6 but now I will give it singularly, so that my full focus will be on F5. Sir are you sure that these material will help me passing? As I am concerned with just passing my exam by any means because its too much to fail exam more than 2 attempt. And also at the end, do cutting too much effects your score in exam if that is the case then I did alot in question 3 and 4. I will follow each and every step advised by you. Thanks in advance
April 18, 2016 at 1:37 pm #311264Looking at just 3 past papers is not enough. Practice is vital – the more the better – and as I wrote before you would be best getting a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. If that is not possible for some reason then you should at the very least work through all of the past papers that are available on the ACCA website.
Have you attempted our online tests? We have short MCQ tests for each chapter, and also a full mock exam of Section A (questions are taken at random from a large bank of questions and so each time you attempt it you are likely to get different questions).
Have you read the technical articles for Paper F5 – they are all available on the ACCA website and are worth reading.
Again, do watch not only the lectures working through the syllabus, but also my lectures working through several past exams. It is vital to attempt every question in the exam. In Section A, if you don’t know the answer to any of the questions or are taking too long, then you must guess. In Section B is is better to hand in 5 part-finished questions than just 2 or 3 fully finished ones. There is never a question where you cannot get 50% of the marks reasonably quickly, and you only need 50% to pass – anything extra is almost a bonus.
You must also attempt every part of each question. Too many spend all their time on part (a) of a question (which is likely to be arithmetic) and do nothing for part (b) which is more often writing. That is stupid – even just writing one sensible comment is going to get 1 mark and every mark is vital.April 18, 2016 at 1:54 pm #311279And what about doing cuttings in calculations. I didnt leave any question incomplete.
April 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm #311285I don’t know what you mean by ‘cuttings’.
The marks for the calculation parts in Section B are for the workings and not for the final answer. If you are approaching it the right way then you will get most of the marks even if you have made a mistake and therefore the final answer is wrong.
For that reason it is vital that your workings are clear and easy for the marker to follow. If they cannot follow what you are doing then you will not get the marks.
