    Welcome to the site.A claimant or plaintiff is the party bringing a specific matter to court.A defendant or respondent is the party defending against such an action.An appelant could be either party but is seeking to have a ruling of a lower court overturned by a higher court.They are appealing against the decision of a lower court.
