Because the exam in paper F9 is the written exam, I have problems related to rounding the number. I am worried how the examiner will give me a mark if I round up or round down the answer incorrectly.
For example, if the instructor said that all the working should be in ‘£000, what should I do ?
If the answer is 103,500 , does it mean that I have to write 103,000 or 104,000 ?
Another thing is the number after the decimal place.
Could I say if the number after the decimal place is 0,1,2,3,4, I have to round down ?
But if the number after the decimal place is 5,6,7,8,9 , I have to round up ?
For instances, 103.4 have to be rounded to 103 ?
103.5 have to be rounded to 104 ?Rounding is irrelevant for the exam unless the examiner specifically tells you the rounding required.
In Section B of the exam, the marks are for the workings and approach, and not for the final answer.
In Section A, the choices of answers available for the MCQ’s will make it clear how much rounding is required.
Your example of 103,500 but rounding to the nearest thousand would not happen in the MCQ’s – in that section is would be 103,400 (therefore rounded to 103,000) or 103,600 (therefore rounded to 104,000). In section B it could happen that you got 103,500, but in that case it would not matter which way you rounded it – again, the marks in Section B are for the workings and not for the final answer.
