December 8, 2015 at 4:38 pm #289091There are only a few things to remember:
The idea is to construct a ‘better’ job. In particular a job that is more interesting and rewarding and therefore more motivating.
There are three or four suggested ways:
1 Job enlargement – which really means more of the same. A horizontal change with not real extension of responsiblity or exercise of new skills.
2 Job rotation – more variety but at the same level.
3 Job enrichment – a vertical change introducing more challenge and responsiblity.
Only 3 will have any material long-term benefits.
4 Autonomous work groups – a group of workers self-govern and make a whole product rather than each person repeating a small task.
This also inreases motivation – though there are productivity losses.
