Hi John
I’m due to sit F9 and F6 in a couple of weeks. Not wishing to tempts fate but if I pass those papers I am “only” left with F8 to sit at this level. Therefore, I will also select a “P” paper in June 2015 too (a March sitting is far too time pressured for me working full time along with a 2 year old daughter etc etc). Do you think it’s wise to take the advanced taxation (following on from the F6 in December) as the first “P” paper?. I was tempted to try and “ease myself in” with P1 which is probably closer aligned to F8 but can’t help thinking some continuity on subject matter would be more prudent whilst some of F6 stays relatively fresh in the grey matter!! I’m undecided on the other option paper at present but will definitely sit the advanced tax as the other choice of 2.
Your thoughts/guidance would be sincerely appreciated.
With Kind Regards
Chris

As someone who is doing P6 for December I would definitely recommend you do it when the F6 knowledge is fresh, the examiner constantly comments that people do not have a good knowledge F6 when sitting this paper.

January 19, 2016 at 9:57 am #296195Hi Chris, I was wondering who you were going to study with and what kind of study – home or classroom. I can only study from home as I have four children and have only used open tuition so far ( along with a BPP revision kit and study text ). I’m not sure who to choose for P6 – thank you
January 19, 2016 at 11:24 am #296231Hi Chris,
I’m sitting P6 in March 2016, after having sat F6 in December 2013. Whilst the knowledge is still pretty decent in my mind (as I found tax the most enjoyable unit), its DEFINITELY beneficial to sit it whilst its fresh. I’ve had to go over my old notes to re-learn the odd thing.
I sat P2 in September (studied for it in March/April), having sat F7 in the previous December and it definitely helped.
What I will say is don’t lose sight on the amount of detail and computations you need to remember. P6 (like P2) goes beyond the nitty gritty stuff like capital allowance calculations calculating personal taxes with 20 adjustments, but you still need to understand that these will an appreciation of these tax rules apply and how to advise a client on how best to utilise them.
There is a LOT of overlap between P6 and F6, but there’s a lot more weight on the advisory role, rather than the computational role. I think its now 60% weighted towards advisory, whereas in F6 it was 80%+ towards computations.
All the best for the future!
January 26, 2016 at 12:49 pm #298002Hi Mo
Sorry for not responding sooner – only just picked this up. I going through BPP Distance Learning (I’ve used them all the way along so far along with OT). Course starts on 25th Feb I think and material available from around 14 days prior to that (online material that is – the rest has arrived in the post already). Plan to start reading the text book from next Monday onwards as sitting F8 at same time. I understand your comments on time – I have one small child and that’s enough to cope with and study at the same time!
Thanks to everyone who’s responded to this query – your support is very much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Chris
January 27, 2016 at 8:52 pm #298213Hi, I am planing to attempt my last exam P6 this june-16, however i passed my F6 in Dec-10 (a big gap). I have to refresh all my F6 knowledge to get into P6 thoroughly. Can i get that via self study? or should i go for class/online lectures? what could be my approach towards this paper? and Does anyone aware of online lectures available?
