Hi Sir, I had failed P4 twice with similar marks 45 and 44 in Dec 2014 and June 2015. I thought I did well but failed.
Would like to know how should I pass this paper?
August 2, 2015 at 7:55 am #264575I am sorry that you have failed and I wish you a better result next time.
There are really three things you need to do:
One is obviously to make sure that you understand the topics thoroughly. I obviously do not know how much studying you have done before, but you do need to make sure – either by going back through your study text, or by watching our free lectures, or both.
Secondly, practice is vital. I assume that you have a Revision Kit from one of the approved publishers, and you must work through every question and learn from your mistakes. In particular learn from the answers to the written parts of the questions – in most P4 exams as many as 50% of the marks are for the written parts of questions. Even if you get stuck on the calculations it is still possible to get marks for the written parts.
The third is your approach to the questions. Appreciate that it is not the final answer in calculations that gets the marks (usually there is no one correct answer anyway – it depends on the assumptions made), but it is proving that you understand what is happening. That is why it is so vital to set out your workings in a way that makes it clear to the marker what you are trying to do. If it is clear that you are attempting it the correct way then you will get most of the marks even if you make lots of arithmetic mistakes.
What might help you with this is to watch the lectures on here going through several question 1’s of recent exams.August 2, 2015 at 2:48 pm #264696Hi sir, thank you for your advice.
The last two attempts, although i worked through the pass year questions and BPP revision kits, however, i still confused with few topics such as
1) when to apply PPPT and IRPT,
2) how to determine the interest, kd / forward rate if given YTM, government yield, credit rating, etcPerhaps I need to go through again these topics and articles again.
Thank you.
August 2, 2015 at 5:15 pm #264747Yes – do go through these topics again (although I really would suggest that you watch all of our free lectures – not just those on the topics you list – and especially those working through past exam Question 1’s).
August 3, 2015 at 5:09 am #264846Hi Sir,
I will watch the videos as I decided to reattempt the exam in December, so that I have more time to prepare.
Thank you for suggestion.
