How did everyone find today’s exam? I got confused by the last section of question 1, I think I was too tired to think. I went back to it at the end, and finally figured it out, but I only had 5 minutes remaining! Hopefully I scored well enough elsewhere to compensate.

I found it far too time pressured, I didn’t manage my time well enough and spent far too much time on question 1.

I also made a mess of the last part of 1. In question 4 I literally did basic bullet points to parts b and c due to having no time.

Hoping for a miracle to get 50%!

I’m hoping the ACCA will moderate the results accordingly if most people struggled to finish the paper 100%.

Or is that just wishful thinking?

Really time pressured, how we are suppose to digest all that info, plan and write I don’t know. Barely an P3 knowledge it seemed… Think managed to put together an answer for 3, but if it was a decent answer I highly doubt. Well P2 tomorrow, praying for a nicer paper than today.

Either that, or I will gladly see the bottom of a bottle of wine tomorrow night.

I found the same thing, tried really hard to stick to time. Like you I think I missed about 30 marks and am really disappointed. All I can hope is that I have scored really high on the bits I have done.
Other than the time pressure, I thought the paper was ok.

paper was insane-It cannot be expected from students to complete full paper as the requirements were far more than the time given!
    Q: part a: Did anyone use PESTEL/ Porters 5 forces/ SWOT(well more of strentghs/weaknesses?
I felt part b for 20 marks?!honestly was ridic in terms of time pressure.

I managed to just about answer 70% of the paper but I dont feel I passed purely on time pressure/mark allocations I felt paper was not balanced but it may be me!

    @comagrey
: Good luck with P2,hope it goes smoother than today, P2 was a beast of paper but at least you know where you stand as it’s more calculations:)

The scenerio for question 1 was so difficult and confusing in so many ways..I had to end up reading it more than once to figure out what’s going on..

The pestel and five forces was everywhere in scenerio and that takes a lot of time to read and plan where to put them… I was so confused and that is where my panic started..

Did everyone else find the same thing

this paper was horrible…. time management was tough, i don’t even think i had enough points for many questions to gain the marks allocated… and it seemed very different from past papers. idk…..

I didn’t know how to do the last part of question 1 and question 2. Probably missed all these marks (30 or 35). Did not have enough time to answer other parts of question 1 suffiiciently.

Yes I used PESTEL, 5 forces and then used Strengths and Weaknesses to identify the Opportunities and Threats as required in the question.

I forgot to talk about Suitability, Feasibility and Acceptability for the q1 last part, even without calcs I imagine I could have picked up a lot of marks just by applying the two options to those criterion.

But yes, so much data to take in, think about, plan, write, evaluate, refer to theory etc.

Unusual no statement of financial position with income statement in Q1 as part b was horrible with probabilities; exam was very time pressurised.
Part a was pestel and porter 5 forces.

    More management accountancy in paper.

I agree in terms of time management and not having enough time-The paper was very different to previous past papers, I am planning to ask ACCA for rescale as the requirements were very vast and it felt scenario was endless. It almost felt that the examiner wished to fail people comparative to past exam papers.

How did everyone else find it?

I did Q2 & Q3 which were not too bad but Q1 was hard to do in the time frame. Lets hope for the best, it was better than P5 on Thursday that’s for sure!!

hbilal – I agree, I found it bizarre how there was a 20 mark questions on basically organic growth or acquisition but there were no accounts to refer to???

I even mentioned this in my script, probabilities are a load of rubbish!

I used PESTEL and five forces too for question one. I’m a really slow reader, do I tried to circle relevant points as I went through, and wrote what part of the model it belonged on the side. Trouble is I only read it once, so I hope I didn’t miss anything too important.

If I have to do this exam again, and I really hope not, I think I’ll try to estimate how many points to make for each section, and stop when I feel I’ve made enough! Otherwise there’s just so much to do and so little time to stop and think.

    Hi guys,

I found the paper OK, even finished 5 minutes before time what makes me thinking that I missed major issues…

For Q1 I calculated that expected value is only positive if target is acquired, higher if with acquisition. In the final section my ccl was that there cannot be made any advice as substancial information: likelihood of change of bidding process, information on target is missing…

Q4 was about right strategy is differentiation by origin

    Q4 wass about life cycle

… At least in my opinion 😉

    Does anyone agree?

Q1 part 1 I used PESTEL, Porter 5 forces and SWOT. I am not sure that Suitability, Acceptability and Feasibility for part 2 was OK.

So what were we ment to put for the Bid for license by itself and not win it… Is the only thing we can put that there would be a 0.8 chance they would loose the $20m fee?
