l can see that both P4& F9 topics are the same. So folks why studying all these topics again in P4 if you have passed F9? . What is the difference between P4 & F9 in terms of examination?

The F9 exam is an angel. The P4 exam is a monster. Though the topics are the same, they are covered in more depth in P4 and you need to apply your knowledge in p4, something which is not done at the F level. The exam is far more challenging and time pressured. And unlike F9, there are no MCQ’s at the P4 level.

Well they are not the same really.

Perhaps it’s a little exaggeration but I see F9 more about single company (entity) whereas P4 it’s from multinational company or corporate perspective.

F9 you have 4 main areas
    1. Investment appraisal
    2. Working Capital Management
    3. Finance and basics of cost of capital
    4. ForEx

In P4 Investement appraisal is taken into more depth. There is little Working Capital Management as I can see.

Now there is huge emphasis on business valuations so cost of capital, valuations are taken into much higher level mergers and acquisitions.

You are also introduced into more complex financial instruments.

Then comparing to F9 there is far more about managing finance in multinational, large corporate rather context.

Thanks folks for commenting on the difference between P4 and F9. But what technique can one use to pass a monster of a paper P4?

The thing I found difficult about P4 was that it introduces loads of new stuff that F9 didn’t have, and in great detail ie the black scholes model and the variables within it, ie the greeks

The exams don’t help the student either, some of the questions are so confusing. There was only a handful of students sitting P4 in my hall, where as when I sat P6 there was about 5 times more

Having said that, I think the knowledge from P4 is essential for any accountant, I am glad I sat it
