is orgn configuration about mintzberg. i.e strategy apex etc? and is this theory used to describe the structure and powers of the orgn?

can u use value chain to answer a question where it says ” analyse strategic position”

Organisational configuration can refer to mintzberg but also to tall/narrow, wide/flat, divisional.

Yes strategic position can involve analysis of the value chain: how do we add value?

I thought strategic position was porters five forces and pestel environment external so I take it internally its strength and weaknesses and value chain…. and if you look at a company in another country could consider porters diamond?!

Portfolio anaylsis is BCG analysis along with parental portfolio along with ashridge is that correct?

And ansoffs matix could be used to assess the options to increase profit?

There is so much to the syllabus I am worried im going to answer with the wrong model!!

Strategic options we could consider johnson scholes and Whittingtons SAF model… what other model could we use?

    Thanks

Strategic position is really assessing how a company’s internal aspects (strengths/weaknesses: recources, competences, value chain, product life cycle, BCG) matches the external environment (PESTEL, 5 Forces).

Ansoff is good for suggecting options; SAF good for assessing those options.

So if we are asked to assess a company’s position we can use PESTEL, 5 forces and strengths and weaknesses- is that correct?

yes I think we can use pestel and porters for external

internal we can use swot, ansoffs, value chain

strategic position we mention both external and internal

Also what other models are good for assessing strategic options? Ansoff and what else?

In a question that asks about options, do we suggest options via ansoff for example and then go on with SAF model to say whether it would be suitable etc?

    Swot or Tows

I just think you mention the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation, and you could mention the growth of the company by using Ansoff. i.e diversification into different niches would perhaps generate probability.
