Hi ,
Q1v -Explain the purpose of setting targets which are challenging? For this question , my interpretation is purpose of setting targets is to ensure hotel manager work towards achieving corporate mission….
but don’t understand why the answer given comments on the problem of target set for manager hotel beyond the easily achievable instead ??
In real life for hotel industry , how they can information from competitor in respect to the customer satisfaction for comparison?
November 26, 2014 at 9:06 am #213316If something is going to challenge you it must be harder to achieve than you would naturally achieve and you must make the effort to achieve them. However, setting more and more difficult targets does not make them more and more challenging because at some point, when they become obviously impossible, you will give up.
Your comment about the difficulty in setting fair standards for comparison is very valid. In essence, they need benchmarks and the most interesting information about competitors is often confidential and difficult to obtain. For your example of customer satisfaction (presumably relating to quality of service in the F&M model) they might have to look at Internet booking sites such as TripAdvisor or Booking.com. ON both of there customers rank their experiences.
The problem is likely to be even more difficult when setting standards for the dimensions of flexibility and innovation. It is a challenge measuring those in you own business let alone comparing them to others.
