Dear sir,
Are we expected to explain models in exam or just go about their application straight-away to the case.
Some questions do make specific reference to a particular model to use – are we supposed to provide brief explanation of the model before applying them, or should we just go about its application without any introduction of the model itself. My concern is: are there any mark reserved to model explanation?Thank you!
November 16, 2014 at 8:04 am #210324If you are asked to use a model (or choose to use one) do not explain it. Apply it and use it to draw conclusions. There will be no !arks for explanation.
Occasionally, but very rarely, you might be asked to explain a model, but this will be a specific requirement in the question.
November 16, 2014 at 2:01 pm #210448So, e.g, if a question specifically asks me to use the “Value Chain model” to analyse the activities of a business, I should just analyse the activities – how they add value to the business- without any (brief) explanation of the Value chain model itself. I believe that if we do explain the model (even briefly), as the examiners answer model normally do, we may be losing precious time in exam.
Thank you sir!

March 7, 2017 at 9:01 am #376193but then when i see the marking scheme, i do see some mark allocations for explaining the models for example ACCA P3 2015 december question 1, QTS group section (b) for contextual factors, they do have marks allocated for defining the terms of contextual factors. But then when we do exams, no marks are allocated for defining them ???
i thought marking scheme was there for us to have a look at how answers should be constructed.
