I’m copying a sentence from examiners solution. Could you please explain me this statement and the concept behind these numbers?
”If this rate of improvement is maintained then the company will reduce its emissions by 82% (62% * (84% ^ 7))”.

If they manage to reduce by 16% in future 7 years, this brings each year’s down to 84% of the previous years. This will happen 7 years in a row so the overall reduction will be:
0.84 raised to the power of 7 or
0.84 x 0.84 x 0.84 x 0.84 x 0.84 x 0.84 x 0.84
Thhis will be applied to the 62 % (ie 100 – 38%) achieved already.
