I couldn’t find this info anywhere, but are we allowed to use images or tables/graphs from the internet for our RAP (Topic 8) as long as it is referenced?
my mentor has mentioned that it would be fine to use it as long as its referenced but another mentor of my friend has strictly advised against it, reason being copyright.
please advise @trephena
October 19, 2014 at 5:01 pm #204984@pallvirain – technically the second mentor is correct as you should obtain permission to use another person’s artwork. Normally as you will be using it for non-commercial purposes this is usually granted (you need to explain exactly what the purpose of any copied image would be for).
All sources need to be referenced as such work is not yours this is a mandatory protocol. The following link provides some detailed rules and they form the basis or most UK universities’ policies on this.

If you are referring to something relatively generic such as a SWOT, you should be able to compose your own if it is impractical seeking permission. Sometimes it is trial and error and you have to be patient when it comes to inserting text but it comes with practice or if you have someone who already has these skills try to coerce them into helping!

for question 1, if I have had more than three meetings with my mentor (ive had four/five). can I write about each meeting separately, so should I only talk about three meetings only?

October 28, 2014 at 12:08 pm #206393@trephena. thankyou again, you’ve been of great help throughout the whole process. im extremely grateful 🙂
I had a small doubt, in the presentation, can we use the same graphs we used in the main RAP? also, do I have to reference the information in ppt as well?
also I am trying to cut down my word count, mainly from part 1 and 2 and wanted to know if industry overview is required under criteria? or can I cut it out of my RAP? If it is required, what are the main points to write under it, as I feel I might have gone into too much detail.
kind regards.

1. No prob whatsoever using the same graphs in both the report and presentation – why not? No point in creating extra work for yourself! No need to reference your Presentation (anyone who may have -don’t worry – it is neither right nor wrong whether to reference the Presentation or not).
2. I would suggest that you keep an industry review if poss but keep it brief and stick to the main points, particularly those that may be relevant to the financial analysis. This may help link the business & financial analyses. Students are often criticised by markers for doing everything in isolation. Don’t go overboard on the information gathering section -it will be obvious to the marker what sources you used: the limitations of the info gathering and data are what you need to focus on. Don’t bother much about why you chose the company & topic – the marker has read all of this routine stuff thousands of times before so (and I speak as a former marker of professional exam papers) markers tend to gloss over the routine bits and cut to the really important material i.e. your analysis 🙂
November 12, 2014 at 6:35 pm #209463Hello, Since i prepared my PowerPoint slides i used company’s logo picture taken off their website and one from another source in introductory slide just to make it look better.
I want to know do i have to reference it as well somehow? Since basically their may be copyrights involved however i doubt that..
Just asking should i use the Logo or not?and please hurry with the reply someone i am soon to submit 🙂 waiting
November 13, 2014 at 7:49 am #209524@captmario – I have never known this to be a problem as you are not using the logo for commercial purposes, passing it off as your design or circulating your work. In fact arguably you are giving the company free publicity so I wouldn’t be worried about it.
