Hello Mike,
I have failed P7 n P5 twice now and I’m at loss as to what could have been responsible because my last attempt was with so much effort. Now I want to undertake mock assessment and explanation of my to how I fared but doesn’t know when to get such services. Both Kaplan n BPP required subscribing for their full study kits which I can’t afford. Please do you have any other idea how I can go about this? You advice is height sought n will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
August 26, 2014 at 5:04 am #192324Hi
Do you have any colleagues that are ACCA qualified? Or any friends? In fact, do you know anyone at all that is ACCA qualified?
Is there a local ACCA society near where you live?
If the answer to all the above is “No” then the next set of questions to ask would be whether you know any teachers sufficiently well to ask them to appraise the quality of your mock exam answers. They don’t need to know the technicalities of ISA, IAS nor IFRS. They DO need to understand the importance of the verb used in the question requirements
Let them read the questions and the printed solutions first and point out to them the fact that the solutions are very comprehensive and not at all indicative of what is expected of a student. Point out also that the exam is for three hours with an additional fifteen minutes for reading and planning
If you can find no friend nor colleague willing to help, think about going back to your university (if it’s local), your local senior school or even your local junior school and ask if a member of the faculty will do this assessment for you. Explain the problem and hope that someone will understand sufficiently the situation that you are in and agree to help
Unless the person you eventually find is a friend, you should be prepared to pay for this person’s time and effort but at least you’re not buying a study text.
Hope this helps
August 30, 2014 at 7:39 am #193017Hi Mike,
Sincerely I don’t have such contacts here in Alberta province, canada where I’m presently residing. I relocated here recently from Nigeria and I studied privately to get to this stage of the exam. However, I’ll forge ahead as usual but it will help me to know if actually quoting d relevant IFRS in each question verbatim and ISAs are compulsory because those are what I may say I didn’t do significantly. I only provide few while I demonstrated the knowledge in others mostly.
I’m very grateful for your help to me and to others generally. I admirer and respect you for that.
Thanks,
August 30, 2014 at 12:14 pm #193042” but it will help me to know if actually quoting d relevant IFRS in each question verbatim and ISAs are compulsory ” – absolutely not! Clearly knowledge is important but so too is application and ability clearly to express your thinking.
There are NO MARKS available for quoting IFRS / IAS / ISA numbers nor for knowing their titles. If you are able to quote – fine. But, if not, it’s not a big deal.
Try going to the local University and ask a professor if he / she would be willing (probably at a price) to spend 15 / 20 minutes critically appraising your mock answers constructively.
You’ve nothing to lose!
