Hi,
I’m confused in how to use them. It always have been headache for me. I looked in ACCA’s provided explanation
Evaluate – Actual meaning
Determine the scenario in the light of the arguments for and against
Key tips – Mention evidence/case/point/issue to support evaluation.and tried to see it in the December 11 Q 3b)
From the answer given I do not see arguments for and against. For me it looks like description of analyse verb
Analyse – Actual meaning Break into separate parts and discuss,examine, or interpret each part
Key tips – Give reasons for the current situation or what has happened.Could you please help me to understand what I am missing here?
I think that the verbs are often used sloppily and I don’t think the model answers always comply with the requirements.
Evaluation implies some sort of judgement eg weighing up the pros and cons to put a value on a strategy or idea.
Analyse probably stops short of the judgement.
In practice when doing a question they will often amount to very nearly the same thing
then it is not fair taking into account that students are criticised for improperly using verbs.
