Question – Discuss the weaknesses in an information system that could result in poor output reports !
Answer – given in Kaplan book talks about Unreliable Information, Timeliness, Information overload. My query is when we are asked to discuss weaknesses in an information system – why we should be discussing resultant factors of weak system. My take on question is
Weaknesses in an Information system are as follows
1)Not user friendly
2)Consuming resources in terms of excessive power
3) Not allowing back ups
4) Often breakdowns
5)Not possible to have updation – i.e incompatible for upgradtionKindly give your advise in the matter.

So, information is only useful if it is available quickly enough to help decision making. If the IS is too slow, that is a weakness (think a fault). Similarly, showering users with too much information is also a weakness: it wastes users’ time and users might overlook a piece of information that is of great significance.

May 20, 2014 at 5:13 pm #169690It’s the system which provides information for management. There are two parts:
1 The information technology system, which is the hardware configuration used, such as a local area network.
2 The information system. I know we are trying to explain the IS overall, but ‘information system’ can also be used to describe the collection, processing and distribution of information, concentrating on the information, not the hardware being used.
