    Hello Tutor

This is my first time on this forum. i really appreciate your advice on my situation. I am appearing for F7 and F8 this june but i am not sure how to prepare for them. I have BPP materiel both study text and revision kit but someone said to me that study texts are quite boring and they really put you off. Please advise where shall i study from? can i just rely on notes and video lectures on this website? i also got BPP course notes. are they any good?

Hi, why not try using the free resources on this site. The course notes and lectures should explain sufficient in sufficient detail for you to gain a pretty good understanding of the concepts involved.

Then get into the revision kit and try a few questions – maybe watch the lectures with past exam worked questions.

There should be enough on this site for your needs

by putting more examples to clarify every point is the only way to make learning easier.

some books teaches themselves not students.

e.g. if i have a degree in non-accounting field and i have joined accounting profession and i want to know definition of DEPRECIATION : it says is the result of systematic allocation of depriciable amount of an asset over its estimated useful life. the word DEPRECIABLE should have been replaced with other word carrying same meaning and not repeating it in the definition.

F7 , 2013, BY E. WOLF IS GOOD . it talks to student not to itself

I just sat these papers in december was successful in f7 but got 47 in f8. My advice to you as said many times is a lot of question practice. not practicing writing the answers from past exams was my biggest downfall as i know that topic but in the exam just writing everything you know is not the same as answering the questions asked.

I self study using only bpp text and kit (heard too much stories of the other books being filled with lots of errors) plus OT lectures and notes. following their tips and practicing questions is the key to passing.

F8 is a lot of reading i would suggest that you complete a chapter/topic then do practice past questions on the topic. if you just read you will get bored. I listened to both Gormit lectures and Mike’s lecture (P7).

    Good luck in June.

@MikeLittle couldn’t have done it without you sir!

    @Anas
, not sure about that book but as i stated before why bpp is the Platinum for a reason havent thought of using another book. Emile Woolfe is one that i understand is also very well noted and is said to be easier to understand than the bpp.

    Hello

    I have a quick question.

I have doing f7 and f8 this june and to be honest i am not really fond of the theory stuff. My question is that… is it ok if i write theoretical answers in exam in my own words? the theory of both f7 and f8 is difficult for me to memorize since it is very technical so will that be ok if i just understand the concept and write in my own words rather than copy paste the exact definitions from bpp text?

    an example:

In BPP study text, the concept of “undesirability” is defined as “Classifying, Categorizing and presenting information clearly and concisely will make it understandable for the user”

Instead of this, can i write in my own words, Undesirability concept states that the financial information should be presented in a clear and concise manner in order to facilitate the user. This does not mean that the entity should omit the complex information altogether because of the underlying difficulty of undesirability. Undesirability simply means disclosing information in a systematic manner rather than through a haphazard approach.

plz advise if i am on the right track

That is a very strange definition of “undesirability”

It seems to me that you have missed off some key words or have misread the word “undesirability”

If something is undesirable, it’s “not what is wanted”

In the context of information presentation, “information should not be omitted merely because it is undesirable. It may be bad news that the company is suffering / has suffered and including that information could have a damaging affect – maybe adversely affecting the company’s reputation. However undesirable the company may feel about the disclosure, that is no excuse / reason for omitting it.

Accountability / transparency / probity / honesty / openness are all “desirable characteristics” of any set of financial statements

As for using your own words ……. I challenge you to “cut and paste” written answers for 3 hours!

Of course you can / must use your own words. So long as you clearly explain the concepts, that’s all that can be expected of you

oops i made a mistake.. apologies i failed to correct this. the above should be Understandibility (the qualitative characteristic) rather than “undesirability” which is nothing actually.
