Hi looking for a bit of clarification on the below question from the pilot paper.
Marcus is charged with the leadership of a multi-disciplinary work team to oversee the development of a new accounting system. He determines that he must ensure that he has representatives from each of the sections in the finance directorate. He finds that the team starts to work well but gradually fails to deliver viable options. The meetings deteriorate into arguments as to who is responsible for what. There is no clear sense of direction. No one seems to take responsibility for the investigation of new options. No one seems to be assessing progress at each meeting.
Marcus may or may not be responsible for the following failures:
1. Failure to ensure effective team management
2. Failure to allow the team enough time to developWhich failures is Marcus responsible for?
A 1 only
B 2 only
C Neither failure
D Both failuresThe answer given in the answer book was A. However is it concerned at all with Tuckmans group stages of development?
I went for the answer D as i felt that initially the group was working well together (forming) then started to deteriorate (storming) given enough time to develop the group may eventually leave this stage and enter (Norming).
So surely he has failed to allow enough time?
March 27, 2014 at 5:07 pm #163372Hi John
Looks like no one else has commented so my analysis is as follows. I answered A on the basis that no one has mentioned anything to do with timescales in the question. Essentially, how can he fail on time when we are not aware of any prescribed deadline. That’s my take on it and it led me to the correct answer so on this occasion I think the answer is in the actual question.
I don’t consider the question to relate to Tuckman in any way at all.
Best Regards
Chris

March 28, 2014 at 1:48 pm #163486I think so mate – good luck with the exam – sitting it any time soon?
March 30, 2014 at 12:53 am #163683Yeah actually passed F1 a few weeks ago, preparing for F2 now. When are you sitting yours?
April 7, 2014 at 7:37 pm #164661I think A is correct because the leader is failing to apply the core responsibilities of a manager ie POCCC and as a result the situation is chaotic.
April 13, 2014 at 1:11 pm #165196I agree with you Christopher point 1 is a failure, my main query was whether we are able to prove that point 2 is a failure or not?
April 14, 2014 at 12:44 pm #165259Hi John
Nice one on passing the F1 – I sit my exam on 4th May so getting closer and closer each day. I’m exempt from F2 &F3 so straight into F4 & F5 in the December sittings!
How did you find the CBE experience?
April 20, 2014 at 9:51 pm #165768Not too far to go then, i’m hoping to sit the F2 in May.
It was the first time i’ve done a CBE so was quite nervous for it. For the exam found that i had more than enough time to go through each question, as long as your well prepared and do as many practise question as you can get your hands on you should be fine.
May 22, 2014 at 4:40 pm #170155hi everyone may someone help me with learning the theories in f1 ..I just cant remind it any new ways pleas
