A company operates a piecework system of remuneration, but also guarantees its employees a minimum wage of $10 per hour for an 8 hour day.
The standard time allowed per unit for output is 4 minutes. Piecework is paid at the rate of $12 per hour.
If an employee produces 150 units on a particular day, what will be their total pay for that day?
February 23, 2014 at 1:39 pm #159855You do not say which part of the question is causing you a problem.
If they produce 150 units, then the standard time is 150 x 4 / 60 hours. At the piecework rate these hours are paid at $12 per hour.
However they are guaranteed a minimum wage of 8 x $10 = $80.
So..they will be paid the piecework rate unless it comes to less than $80, in which case they will be paid $80.
February 26, 2014 at 7:13 pm #160468so,the answer is 150 x 0.06 x 12 = 108, becoz ,108 is greater than 80
February 26, 2014 at 7:31 pm #160477No!
4/60 does not equal 0.6!!!
150 x 4/60 x 12 = 120

It equals 0.06666 which makes a big difference.
The structure of the exam has changed but the syllabus is the same.
The ‘full exam and extra MTQ’s’ were on the ACCA’s website, but they have now been removed (so we can not update them!).
However the CBE exam was exactly the same as the paper based specimen paper, and that is still there.
If you need more practice on the multi-task section B questions then you should buy a new Revision Kit from one of the approved publishers.February 27, 2014 at 5:59 pm #160888thanks for ur suggestion i try my best to give this time

May 27, 2015 at 1:01 pm #249542Good morning Mr Moffat,
Can you please explain where the 60 hours come from?
I am struggleling to understand this one.
Thank you very much.May 27, 2015 at 3:36 pm #24959060 hours does not appear anywhere in either the question or my replies!!!
You are confusing it with the fact that 4 minutes is equal to 4/60 hours.
That is because there are 60 minutes in every hour. - AuthorPosts
