im going to take f7 in dec, been told the f3 syllabus is assumed knowledge, do i have to go over all the f3 notes again? or are there just a few main chapters that need to be looked at
August 6, 2013 at 3:16 pm #135186I was worried about that as well, but actually my course notes on f7 includes what i need to know from f3 so that people who got exemptions from f3 can still understand it, so it might make a difference who your tuition provider is.
But i found it’s mainly just basic concepts and T-accounts that’s needed, as well as pro-forma for financial statements.
remember to debit an increase in expense or assets and a decrease in liability,
and credit an increase in income or liability and a decrease in assets.August 6, 2013 at 4:42 pm #135189Hi unknown
It would not do your cause any harm to quickly refresh your memory of the F3 topics. Cash flows, ratio analysis and consolidations are three major areas within the F7 syllabus and, of course, preparation of financial statements from a trial balance also features in pretty well every F7 exam. Yes, quickly work through the F3 notes
August 6, 2013 at 4:48 pm #135190Hi ask248
Thanks for your input. However, you’ll notice that my advice to “unknown” is a little bit different than yours. Maybe your F7 course notes were enough for you. Maybe you retained in memory more of the F3 syllabus. It could be that you are happy to scrape a pass in F7. We have no idea of the abilities of Unknown and the safest route for him / her to follow is to refresh the F3 knowledge. Better safe than sorry. Better too much than too little
🙂
August 6, 2013 at 5:11 pm #135193You’re right that it would be safer to refresh f3, but personally when i tried doing that i found it overwhelming and I wasted a lot of time. My tuition providers refresh f3 knowledge as and when it’s needed for f7, that’s why i suggested that it makes a difference who the tuition provider is. But of course better safe than sorry

August 11, 2013 at 6:05 pm #137584Hi Mike,
is it importat to read F3 books before starting F7? I have an exemption for F3, but I am not very familiar with theory of F7. However I have some practical experience. Is it enough to read only F7 in order to pass F7? What is your opinion of the best combination for F5? I want to take F5 and F7 or F5 and F9. I really like F5 and want to take another exam, with at least 1 day rest. ThanksAugust 12, 2013 at 10:48 am #137675F5 apparently goes well with F9
Re F7, it should not take you long to get through the F3 course notes and lectures and it should be very helpful for your F7 studies
August 24, 2013 at 3:23 pm #139023Hi all, I am exempt from F1 through to F4 and at a lost at which of the remaining papers to start first but I am kind of leaning towards F7. I am so new to this and there is so much information out there that I just don’t know where to start. If I want to do F7 do I need to buy the F3 and F7 course notes etc and where is the best place to get these from? Thanks in advance for your help but I’ve been thinking of doing ACCA for years now and every year I get so lost in how to start that I back away from it only to regret another year passing me by.
August 24, 2013 at 6:03 pm #139027I wouldn’t think that it was necessary to buy F3 material. Yous ay you are exempt so presumably there is SOME basic bookkeeping knowledge inside your head.
May I suggest that you work your way through the F3 material / videos / audios on this site as a foundation for your later F7 studies. It honestly should not take you long and will certainly help with F7
