    Dear tutor

Kindly be advised that according to lecture notes of chapter 3 (page 18 section 1.2 part (c)), it has been stated that capital expenditure may be claimed for expenditure on plant and machinery used for the maintenance of the property. However, when referring to Kaplan it has been said that normal capital allowances cannot be claimed for expenditure on plant and machinery for the use in dwelling house (which i understand refers to premises).

I would be grateful if you could kindly advise on the above.

    With thanks and kind regards
    Seemita

Hi Seemita both Kaplan and the OT Course Notes are correct! Kaplan state that NO CA’a are available for expenditure on plant and machinery used IN the property, furniture and furnishings, a fridge, a cooker, a dishwasher etc. whereas our OT notes say that CA’s are available for plant and machinery used for the MAINTENANCE OF the property. a lawn mower for example. These are different things. Do remember that normal CA’s are available for plant and machinery including furniture used in furnished holiday lettings. Hope this helps
