I failed in RAP but i passed in SLS.
I wanted to ask, do i need to submit presentations slides too?February 22, 2013 at 7:03 am #118479sorry for that, but WHAT you need is to work hard and pass RR only you don’t need to submit the slides again(SLS).
March 4, 2013 at 4:46 am #119102slides are part of sls and you have passed sls.

Congrads to everyone who passed.can anyone please explain to me why they fail SLS when it is supposed to be an evaluation what you experienced in doing the RR. They say in infor. pack there is no right answer to those questions so why fail.

Presentation is a part of the SLS but the funny part is when I resubmitted my RAP (I passed the SLS earlier) the uploading page requires you to upload the presentation as well. I have no idea why. So I had to update my presentation and upload it along with everything else so all in all it was tiring to update the presentation last minute but worth it since I got through the RAP this time. So to avoid all the last minute hassle, update your presentation as you maybe required to upload that as well.
March 28, 2014 at 6:02 pm #163519@muaaz Would you mind sharing the feedback the marker gave you? You could either post it here, or anonymously on this survey I’m running:

And on the plus side… Congratulations on passing your SLS!
March 29, 2014 at 9:45 am #163609There are no right or wrong answers to the SLS but there are right or wrong approaches. It is supposed to be based on self-evaluation and reflection about what you learned and its possible use for the future. Just stating you did this, you did that etc is not self-reflection. Neither is being vague about what you have learned from the experience and the mentor.
The pages in the info pack make this clear – makes me wonder if those students who moan about failing the SLS have bothered to read the advice in the first place at all! e.g.
“You must demonstrate your ability to reflect on the judgments that you have made and the actions that you have taken while undertaking your RAP work. We want to see you provide evidence that you recognise your strengths and weaknesses. If you only provide a description of what happened while you were doing your RAP, then you will not pass the SLS.” (OBU RAP information pack 2013/14, p.40)
As the opening sentence (p.39) says “The Skills and Learning Statement (SLS) is the opportunity for you to demonstrate that you have developed the key ‘graduate’ skills of self-reflection and communication.” If you don’t demonstrate self-reflection then obviously you are going to fail…. !!!!

March 29, 2014 at 10:27 am #163616Yes I realised that but lindi had raised the issue of why the SLS can be failed at all when she said:
“can anyone please explain to me why they fail SLS when it is supposed to be an evaluation what you experienced in doing the RR. They say in infor. pack there is no right answer to those questions so why fail.”
QED
🙂
March 30, 2014 at 7:09 am #163688@trephena well explained the heck of SLS. Your gathered tons of information about RAP (:
March 30, 2014 at 9:47 am #163697I did both of my degrees (BSc and MSc) and most of my accountancy studying distance learning so am used to having to study on my own. The most important thing is to find out what you are expected to do – that’s why the info pack, guidelines and articles produced by OBU are critical for getting it right. It’s no good blaming the mentor for everything and getting it wrong if you haven’t read the basics for yourself! (A case of a bad workman blames his tools, perhaps?). Yes there are good and bad mentors but then there are also good and bad students (like the ones asking for other people to send them a copy of their report! who want the prestige of a degree but can’t be bothered to put in the effort).
Degrees are about showing that you can think for yourself so you shouldn’t be relying on a mentor for everything. When doing my MSc another student who was doing their 2nd Masters degree told me that academics like original analysis and to get a good mark you have to demonstrate that you have used the various information sources to come up with a balanced and reasoned analysis . The same applies to the RAP – that’s why just repeating comments for the annual report (for Topic 8) is never to going to get you a good grade or above (and is more likely to mean a fail unless you have bothered to show other sources). Anyone can read the annual report for themselves – and let’s face it, the CEO and auditors have said it all far more eloquently first time round!
