Hi Mike
after watching the lecture and reading up on wikipedia, I am still not clear on the nature of torts.
particularly that a tort is a civil wrong but can also be criminal in nature (e.g. defamation in written form)- i find this confusing. do torts go to the criminal courts also?
tort is never from a breach of contract, and a liability must arise from the tort- is this correct?
thank you
p.s. do you perhaps know where this word derives from?
Derivation?
“Word Origin
C14: from Old French, from Medieval Latin tortum, literally: something twisted, from Latin torqu?re to twist”
“particularly that a tort is a civil wrong but can also be criminal in nature (e.g. defamation in written form)- i find this confusing. do torts go to the criminal courts also?”
