Hello John,
You explained that there are two ways in which planning and operational variances are calculated.Unfortunately, the examiner prefers the one used in your lectures.
My problem now is with the old examiner and the old past questions.. Obviously, the old examiner would have preferred to solve the questions using the old method and will get a different answer compared to using the new method.
How then do I determine if I’m correct or wrong when practicing the old past papers?
You should be practicing questions in a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. They will have answers in the way that the current examiner prefers.
Also, because of syllabus changes (some topics removed and some topics added) and also the complete change in the format of the exam, it is best to use a Revision Kit (rather than past papers) – they only include topics that are in the syllabus, and the questions are in the current exam format. Just make sure that you buy current edition of the kit.
