How are we supposed to know the correct division of marks in a single question asking for 2 separate requirements? Do we lose marks if our distribution is not appropriate as with the marking scheme.
I believe that it’s only a problem in a part question that asks you, for example, to “identify and explain”
You can work on the basis of 1 mark for identify and 1 for explain …
… or 1 for identify and 2 for explain …
… or even .5 for identify 1.5 for explain
Look at the marking schemes that are published in revision kits – you’ll soon get a feel for the weighting
But for the most part, it’s a pretty good rule of thumb to work on the principle of 1 relevant point = 1 mark
