The proctor disconnected me from my remote exam; I still had 2 hours remaining from my 3:15 hours allocated time for AAA.
During the check-in process, I had not faced any issues. I could not see myself in the recording just before the exam started, which I highlighted to the first proctor. He asked if I could give them a 360-degree view of the room I was taking my exam, which I did. They said they could see me and not to worry.
Twenty minutes into the exam, the second proctor contacted me, and they said they couldn’t see me; I explained to them what the first proctor said. I told them I had already lost much of my time due to the technical issue and will I be awarded extra time. They told me they couldn’t do this. I was already upset with most of the time being lost. The second proctor said they would escalate the issue to their senior team member, and I was asked to continue with my exam.
Thirty minutes later (after the second proctor was contacted), I was told the third proctor couldn’t see me; I explained to them when they called me on my phone. I asked them what I should be doing, and they, too, said, “Continue with the exam”, which I did.
Thirty-five later (After the third proctor contacted me), I was disconnected from my remote exam. I was upset and shocked.
I thought there could be a technical issue, so I kept claiming and waiting. Finally, after 10 minutes with no luck getting reconnected, I saw six missed calls from the same number when the second proctor called me earlier on my phone. I followed ACCA guidelines (Phone to be kept away from arm’s length and on silent mode). I was not messaged about them contacting me on my phone. On the previous call, they did message me before calling me on my phone.
During this process, I was only able to answer around 35 marks. I am positive, I wrote well for 35 marks.
Now, ACCA says I have two options: first is to withdraw, or second is to mitigate circumstances. I couldn’t re-book the remote exam for week two because ACCA doesn’t have a AAA UK variant.
How will I be marked if I opt for the mitigation route? What bases will the 50% pass mark be calculated?
June 7, 2023 at 12:47 pm #686342In short – you can’t pass if you had chance only to attempt 1/3rd of the exam. Your mark for the part(s) attempted cannot be extrapolated to give a mark for the exam.
If you’re desperate to sit next week you could consider sitting INT*, for which you would “only” need to hone your skills on the audit of performance information in the public sector – see Chapter 31 in our notes. Like aspects of insolvency in the UK syllabus this doesn’t come up in every exam.
*You might need to check with ACCA – I don’t know if you see INT as an option having just attempted UK.
